Review - Raptor (2015) - Matagot

I am always on the lookout for a good 2-player game for us. This one has been on my radar for a while, and I was able to trade for a copy (and right after I did, it went back into print). So, I figure now would be a good time to review it.

Review - Bisikle (2009) - CEPIA Games

I have wanted this game for a long time, but I never pulled the trigger on it. Well, recently that changed, and I was finally able to acquire a copy in a trade!

Review - Random Encounter (2016) - IDW Games

Ty was excited about this game when it was on Kickstarter because the art was done by Jamie Keddie, an artist on Minecraft: Console Editions.  Unfortunately, the game did not reach its funding goal, and he was saddened.  However, victory was around the corner, as IDW games decided to publish the game! After much anticipation, Ty challenged me to a game of Random Encounter.

Review - Onitama (2014) - Arcane Wonders

When I heard that Onitama was coming out, I immediately thought of one of my favorite games, The Duke. I figured that if any game was going to replace it in my collection, it would be this one. Does it measure, or even take over as my favorite abstract game?

Review - Heroes (2015) - Lion Games

Sometimes, games get passed over because of a title that does not catch your eye, or that just sounds kind of generic. When I saw the title of this game, it didn't grab me, but the mechanics seemed interesting. and if there's one thing I'm addicted to, it's trying new game mechanics.

Review - KLASK (2016) - Competo - Buffalo Games

There has been a lot of buzz about KLASK. It's mentioned in Forbes as a toy to watch in 2016. It's a recent addition to the shelves in Target. It was about time I grabbed a copy and brought it home to try with Tyler.

Review - Can't Stop (1980) - Sid Sackson

Sid Sackson is a legend of board game design. The very long list of games he has designed includes Acquire, Executive Decision, I'm the Boss, and Sleuth, just to name a few!  Today, we are looking at Can't Stop, a game designed in 1980 that still holds the test of time.

Review - Pounce! (2005) - Gamewright

Tyler picked this game to be the next one to review because it's a Gamewright game. Ever since we purchased Cube Quest, Tyler has had a fondness for Gamewright.

Review - Star Realms: Colony Wars (2015) - White Wizard Games

Star Realms is the only deck builder Tyler and I have ever liked (to be fair, we have never dipped into Magic but I have been looking at duel decks). When this came out, it was a no-brainer to buy it!

Review - Don't Drop Mama! (1991) Parker Brothers

You could have asked me to make a list of the next 100 games I am willing to review, and I assure you that this game would have never made the cut. I found it at a rummage sale and Tyler requested that it be the next review.

Review - Quest: A Time of Heroes (2010) - Z-Man Games

Tyler has been asking me if there are any games we can play that will level up his characters. Obviously, HeroQuest would be my first pick, except it's way out of print. So, I stumbled across this as another option.

Review - Taste Of Poland (2015) - Bomba Games

Being of Polish heritage, when I saw this game show up at Essen last year, I thought, "This would be an interesting game to try..." Lo and behold, they came out with an english language version! Also, I would like to add, prior to the review, I feel Polish shame, because I have eaten zero of these items. Pirogi, Golumpki and Chrusciki did not make the cut.

Review - Pink Godzilla Dev Kit (2006) - Pink Godzilla Games

My son loves video games. He plays Minecraft the most, but he has played many, many other games (more games than my wife would be enthusiastic about, I'm sure). I came across this odd video game-themed boardgame in a auction listing on BGG and decided to check it out, After reading up on it a little, I decided to locate a copy for myself, and now I've decided to bump it up on the review list!

Review - London After Midnight (2015) - Gen-X Games

The Blurb

Each player take a secret faction card, that will say if he is at the side of the "Heroes" or at the side of "Monsters". During the game, a player can either play a card from his hand or draw a new card. Each card will give you "black" points (if you are a Monster) or "white" points (if you are a Hero). Also, each card represents a character with a special skill that you can use in your favor. Dracula can control the forces of darkness. Van Helsing can destroy the undead. Frankenstein's monster can run havoc. Arsene Lupin can steal a card from another player. Jekyll and Hyde discard each other...
The game ends when the last card is drawn. Then, each player reveals his faction and count his points. There can be only one winner!

Review - ESSEN The Game: SPIEL'13 (2014) - Geek Attitude Games

The Blurb:

ESSEN the Game is a strategy game where each player is a visitor at the International Game Fair of Essen. With your wishlist, face the crowd and make your way to the stands of your favorite publishers. However, beware that games availability is limited. To achieve your goals, you have to manage your budget and encumbering. The number of games that you carry will reduce your moves in the fair. You will need to come back to the parking lot to store your purchases in your car before getting back to the fair in search of that special game.

Review - Flapjacks and Sasquatches (2008) - Prolific Games

The Blurb

Flapjacks and Sasquatches is an easy, "take that" style card game in which you want to chop down the tree card in front of you. The card has both a "chop" value and a point value; using Axe cards, you roll dice to try to meet or exceed the "chop" value. When you do, you collect the tree (and the points). Flapjack cards can add to your roll, while blister cards can take away.

Review - Cube Quest (2013) - Gamewright

The Blurb:

Cube Quest is a dexterity game in which lightweight hollow cubic dice are flicked across custom rubber mats. Cubes that leave the mats are defeated. Play alternates until someone wins by defeating the enemy king. Cubes also risk defeat in enemy territory; if they land "shadow" side up, they have been captured and must be rolled, like dice, to determine whether they escape. The cubes have different strengths and special abilities, such as taking extra flicks, immobilizing enemy cubes, reviving lost cubes, and hiding before strategic re-positioning. The game allows for custom army building using a simple point system. Pre-battle setup involves a tactical selection of cubes worth a total of 40 points maximum to fight alongside their king. Each player also chooses how to position their cubes, creating individual attack and defense formations and structures!
